The Voters and Convicted Felons Have Spoken

It appears the voters where scared into voting for the incumbent Sheriff. As always, they get what they ask for. I have done what I could to raise the issues in this race because of the incumbents lack of vision and passion for the job, and his hypocrisy. The county attorney is still investigating his ethics violation, and I believe he will be found guilty, particularly after hearing from another person who was on the "cruise". I don't know if it rises to removal from office, but that is out of my hands.

Unfortunately, the mantra was "he's the lesser of two evils" and I feared this would get him back in office. People didn't voted for Luttrell even though he unapologetically took money from felons, indictees, shady characters - at the same time he was raining all over the deputies parade for visiting one. More accurately, they voted against French. I am so close to the situation, I couldn't vote for him, nor could I sit by and let a tyrant get reelected without saying something. Maybe he can learn that not all deputies are afraid to speak out against wrong.

Luttrell will continue running non effective "beer stings" that are paid for by the state, while doing nothing with his band of officers. Twelve officers in narcotics, and twelve in the gang clubs (you can't even call them bureaus due to their lack of numbers) and he has Fugitive whittled down to less than 50 officers. The department needs an additional 100 officers as soon as possible and someone who understands law enforcement in control. Oh well! Shelby County is hopelessly in a tailspin, I fear. Not that French would have been much better, but at least he wouldn't be terrorizing the deputies.

I am not a deputy and I don't know you personally, so I am not qualified to comment on the accuracy of your statements posted here in your blog; but, you do raise some interesting points.
The question I have is, if Mark Luttrell is so bad why don't the serif's deputies form a union or at least a committee to address some of these issues? You can't have a sheriff's department without deputies and the bottom line is EVERYONE in Shelby county knows that it's the deputies out in the cars, not the sheriff. No deputies, no sheriff's department so why aren't there more deputies organizing or at least complaining? Are they so afraid of losing there jobs ?

Yes, the deputies know if they stand up to him or his minions, they will pay the price. It's easier to just go along, do your job, and keep quiet. We have a saying, "if they are dogging someone else, they can't be dogging me." I have seen them dog more than one at a time though.

As for the association, I am a past vice president and have been a member since 1975. It is not a strong group. Most just prefer to let other's (like me) stand up and take the hits. That's ok, nobody talked me into stepping out there. When they put me on the midnight shift, it was expected, as a matter of fact, I predicted it. They are the same group that has run the Sheriff's Office for the past 30 years.

As for Luttrell, I have not said anything about him that isn't factual. The facts may not be pretty, but they are acurate. Here is a "brief" rundown once again:

1. Consorting with felons, while punishing deputies for visiting one.
A. Rusty Hyneman (we arrested him with 2 kilos of cocaine and he was later found to be connected to the biggest cocaine producer in the world.
B. William B. Tanner. arrested, indicted, did time, under a new indictment when Luttrell attended a fund raiser at his home.
C. The aforementioned fund raiser was hosted by another felon - Joe Cooper.
D. He had commercials run by former mayor Bill (9 felony indictments) doing commercials for him.
E. He had Bobby Lanier (convicted 11 mos. 29 days, sentenced to diversion), hired by Rout and Wharton, then fired, then hired as "fund raiser"

It's the "usual suspects".

Now he has violated the county ethics policy because of his arrogance. He honestly believes the rules apply to everyone but him. I have now spoken with two people who were on the dinner cruise, and they say they didn't eat lobster, but it was a "killer" meal on a nice boat. I also checked with the Odyssey Cruise Lines in Chicago and have the records where Aramark paid for several cruises. Each cruise cost them about $100.00 per person. Obviously they didn't have "chips and salsa" as Mike Fleming was trying to say. Mike was just trying his dead level best to keep Reginald French out of office. I understand that, and trust me, I'm no French supporter, but I didn't see any difference in them. One is white and the other black and neither have any business as Sheriff.

The bottom line is, this election is over. It is time to move on to the next adventure, and it is just around the corner - trust me. God is still in Control and He has never been surprised!

Thanks for your comments and interest.
